Migori County government through the office of the county attorney filed a case at Migori law court stopping the government from evicting the people living in the Macalder land gazette as forest land by the government through a Gazette notice dated 13th June 2023.

Migori county senator Eddy Oketch has called on the nationals and the county government of Migori to diplomatically handle the contentious Macalder land gazetted by the government as forest land even as the case is pending in court.

Oketch said the lives of over 20,000 people in Macalder cannot be at stake for an issue that can be handled diplomatically between the county and national governments.

He said the national government should assess the land and give title deeds to the people who have lived in the region and consider having part of the land not inhabited as forest land.

The Migori senator said the idea of evicting the people living in this piece of land that is approximately 6,145 acres is going to disadvantage the people living in the region and they cannot allow the government to effect the eviction plan.
