Mikel Arteta has provided an update on Jurrien Timber after the Dutchman appeared to pick up a concerning injury during Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest.

The Dutchman initially went down after a collision with Brennan Johnson on the stroke of half time. After receiving lengthy treatment just before the break Timber came but out for the second half but lasted only a couple of minutes before collapsing again under no contact.

Arsenal’s summer signing then limped off the pitch after receiving yet more treatment on his knee. Arteta has now moved to defend the Gunners’ decision to bring Timber back out for the second half.

“The doctors looked at him and they were happy for him to continue, he was as well,” the Spaniard said in his post-match press conference. “Straight away in the first action of the second half he made a movement and it was a bit funny. We took him out straight after and now we have to assess him and see what he has.”

Oleksandr Zinchenko is continuing to recover from a calf injury that has seen him miss all of Arsenal’s pre-season fixtures. Kieran Tierney meanwhile was not selected in the squad amid reported interest from Real Sociedad.

Arsenal’s only other current long-term injury concern is currently Mohamed Elneny who is expected back in September after suffering a serious knee injury in January.
