Radio presenter Mkamburi Chigogo has drawn attention after saying women should rob men who invite them to their house on the first date.

Chigogo said it is important to rob such men to stop what she calls “cheapskate behaviour.” Her remarks may fit in with how people talk about dating and modern relationships in Kenya.

“If a man invites you to his house on the first date, it’s paramount you rob him,” Chigogo said on Thursday, February 12, 2026.

She added that this teaches men not to take women for granted or expect favours without effort. To men, inviting a woman home early is harmless, but it can show poor character from a woman’s point of view.

Nowadays, women are careful and stand their ground when a man tries to rush intimacy or take advantage.

“It’s important to rob him to end that cheapskate behaviour,” she said.

She explained that her advice is meant to make women aware of men who do not respect them.

Modern dating in Kenya

Dating has changed in Kenya. Women today are more careful and no longer want to go to a man’s house on the first date. Safety is one reason, and another is that it often shows a man is only after one thing.

In the past, men would invite women home early, but today, women are saying no. Modern Kenyan girls are setting boundaries to protect themselves.

Women should think about their safety and a man’s intentions before agreeing to early house visits. The modern approach shows women are not willing to compromise their comfort or security for a man.

In the modern dating scene, many women enjoy being taken on thoughtful dates at beautiful restaurants. These outings allow couples to connect, enjoy each other’s company, and create memorable experiences without rushing into intimacy.

A well-planned date shows care and effort, helping build trust and respect. While safety and boundaries remain important, gestures like dining in a nice place or spending quality time together remind women that relationships can be enjoyable, meaningful, and based on mutual respect.
