According to Kenya’s Ministry of Health, no new confirmed cases of Mpox were reported in the country in the past day. In a statement released on Saturday, the Health Ministry announced that 21,350 travelers were screened the previous day, bringing the total number of screenings to 302,436 since surveillance began.
While no new suspected cases were detected among travelers, five new suspected cases were identified within the country during the same period. The Health Ministry reported that a total of 29 suspected cases have been identified so far, with 23 testing negative for Mpox. The remaining six cases are pending confirmation from the reference laboratory.
“Over the same period, five (5) new suspected Mpox cases have been detected. Cumulatively, twenty-nine (29) suspected cases have been identified,” the Health Ministry said.
“Of these, twenty-three (23) have tested negative for Mpox, while six (6) cases are pending confirmation from the reference Laboratory.”
One of the suspected cases currently under observation is from Vineyard Hospital in Kiambu County, where the patient is isolated and receiving treatment. The Ministry also urged Kenyans to refrain from sharing photos of suspected Mpox cases on social media to prevent misinformation and respect patient privacy.
Kenya declared a Mpox outbreak on July 31, 2024, after confirming a case in Taveta Sub-County, Taita Taveta County. The patient has since recovered and been discharged from the hospital, and none of the 12 contacts associated with the confirmed case developed symptoms during the 21-day surveillance period.
