The Moi University officials summoned by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Corruption Commission (EACC) over corruption involving infrastructural projects worth Ksh.2,189,659,497 began recording statements at the graft watchdog’s offices in Eldoret, Usain Gishu County on Tuesday.

Vice-Chancellor Isaac Kosgei, Chief Accountant Egla Samoei, Head of Procurement Wilson Bett and Head of Development Unit Moses Kipkulei were summoned as part of an ongoing probe into reports of massive corruption and theft of public funds at the university.

Samoei, Bett and Kipkulei were scheduled to record their statements on Tuesday while Prof Kosgei was expected to appear before the detectives on Wednesday, EACC said.

At press time, the anti-graft state agency had confirmed that Bett and Kipkulei were being held at the EACC Eldoret offices.

In the summons letter dated November 14, EACC instructed Moi University to avail documents like approved institutional budgets for the last six financial years and minutes for 18 special council meetings by close of business on Tuesday.

Besides the allegations of presiding over a corruption den at the university, Kosgei is accused of attempts to interfere with the ongoing investigations and obstructing EACC by failing to submit crucial documents despite several reminders.
