Mombasa Olympic FC head coach Joseph Oyoo will gun for maximum points when his side battles Ulinzi Starlets in the Kenyan Women’s Premier League (FKF WPL) on Wednesday.

The Mombasa-based side fell 3-2 in the hands of Zetech Sparks in the last fixture on Saturday at Makande Primary School, a loss that left them in the 10th position on the log with five points one behind of eight-placed Ulinzi Starlets as Kibera Soccer Women, Trinity Starlets, Kenya Police Bullets, Vihiga Queens and Bungoma Queens occupies top five in that order.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Oyoo acknowledged that their form in the league has deteriorated but remained confident of snatching three points in the midweek fixture.

“We haven’t performed well this season because, in the five matches, we have only managed a single win, two draws, and three losses, which is really stressful, but according to the proper training we have had so far this week.

“I’m sure enough we will revive ourselves starting with Wednesday’s fixture against the soldiers.

“The midweek match will build momentum for the weekend fixture, where we are scheduled to meet Kenya Police Bullets.”

Oyoo, however, believes that the poor run in the league results from the federation’s ban on signing players.

Football Kenya Federation banned the Mombasa side when they were taking part in the Women’s National Super League (NSL) last season for allegedly signing an ineligible player.

Olympic signed Uweza Women player Lucy Kadzo with fake papers, attracting the discipline procedures from the federation who banned them from signing new players until mid of the current season.

“The ban really has contributed to our poor form so far. We were forced to use the same players we had last season in NSL most of whom are average players.

“I wonder why the federation banned us from signing, considering that the player was a student at Dagoretti High School when we signed her in the second leg while in NSL.

“We are now waiting for the first leg to end so that we can sign quality players as we aim to avoid relegation.”

Other Sunday results saw Bungoma Queens settle for a goalless draw against Ulinzi Starlets, Wadadia FC suffered a 6-0 loss in the hands of Kenya Police Bullets, while four-time champions Vihiga Queens shared spoils following a goalless draw against Bunyore Starlets.
