Education stakeholders are urging the government, particularly the Ministry of Education, to organize sensitization meetings with university students to explain the new funding model. This call comes in response to the challenges and complaints students have faced regarding the model.
Citizen Digital discovered that many students entering institutions like Rongo University are still struggling to understand how the new funding model operates and how to access the funds. Rongo University Vice Chancellor Prof. Samwel Gudu acknowledged that a significant number of new students are facing difficulties in both accessing the funds and grasping the overall funding model.
To address these issues, the university has set up a help desk to assist students with problems related to the new funding model. Additionally, the university plans to invite officials involved in the distribution of university funds to hold sessions with the students.
Both new and current students have encountered challenges in obtaining the government funds. Even a year after the new university funding model was introduced, many stakeholders, including students, are still struggling to understand how it works. As a result, education sector stakeholders are employing various methods to help both students and parents comprehend the model and how to access the funding.
Last month, Uriri Member of Parliament Mark Nyamita organized a session that included education stakeholders, university fund officials, and students to help clarify the funding model for both learners and their parents.
