Uasin Gishu County has installed additional monuments and statues in Eldoret town to celebrate its new city status. One notable statue, representing a milk guard, has garnered praise from residents for its craftsmanship.

Many expressed their appreciation, stating, “This is a better statue than what had been put up earlier in some parts of the town. The artist who created the milk guard statue did a better job.

” The statue was unveiled early Thursday in anticipation of the elevation ceremony presided over by President William Ruto at the Eldoret Sports Club.

However, an uproar erupted in Eldoret on Wednesday when the county unveiled several thematic monuments as part of the beautification efforts for the city’s new status. Some Kenyans took to social media to criticize certain monuments, leading the contracted firms to later remove them.

Many residents were taken aback by what they deemed unsatisfactory workmanship, particularly a monument at the Fims junction depicting an athlete that they felt was unrecognizable.

Photos of these monuments circulated on social media, sparking backlash against the county administration and the Eldoret Municipal Board. Another monument, featuring a green maize crop at the Telecom roundabout, was also taken down due to its discolored appearance and replaced with a more vibrant version.

Residents, including Kipkorir Birgen, commented online that the county could have done better, arguing that the monuments do not reflect the city’s newfound status.

Sources indicate that a senior government official was displeased with the monuments and instructed that they be either removed or replaced. Eldoret Municipal Board CEO Tito Koiyet was unavailable for immediate comment.
