Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has strongly rebutted former Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi and lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi’s assertions regarding the dismissal of President William Ruto’s 21 Cabinet Secretaries.
Havi had stated that the dismissal rendered them permanently ineligible for any public office, likening their status to impeached governors or judges found unfit to serve. Ahmednasir supported this view, emphasizing the constitutional implications of such a dismissal.
In response, Kuria criticized their legal interpretations, arguing that their opinions were misguided.
He contended that dismissals should follow fair administrative procedures, suggesting that a disciplinary process or court martial should precede such drastic actions. Kuria likened their stance to unwarranted persecution, urging them to reconsider their positions.
President Ruto’s decision to dismiss his Cabinet was announced on July 11, excluding only Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi from the action. Ruto justified the move as a response to public feedback and a comprehensive evaluation of his Cabinet’s performance and challenges.
Online reactions from Kenyans have varied, with some questioning the exclusion of Mudavadi, who holds an unconstitutional office.
