Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has provided an update on the legendary Simba Wanyika musician William Peter Kinyonga, whom he recently rescued from the streets of Nairobi.
In a statement shared on his official social media accounts on Saturday, January 31, 2026, Mosiria revealed that the musician is currently staying at the Home for the Elderly, where he is receiving proper shelter, care, and support.
“Today, I want to assure everyone that our legend is now safe and well cared for. He is currently staying at Mji wa Huruma – Home for the Elderly, where he is receiving proper shelter, care, and support,” Mosiria revealed.
He went on and narrated how he successfully rescued Kinyonga from the streets.
“This is the legendary Simba Wanyika, a musician whom I recently rescued from the streets of Nairobi. After years of hardship and neglect, we found him living in very difficult conditions,” Mosiria narrated.

“At first, he refused to be rescued because many people had previously approached him, taken photos, made promises, and then abandoned him, leaving him to continue suffering on the streets. Understandably, he had lost trust.”
Mosiria emphasised that what the musician needs most now is love, encouragement, and visits from the community that appreciates his music and legacy.
He also appealed to his family members to come forward to help facilitate a reunion.
“What he needs most now is love, visits, and encouragement from the community that appreciates his music and legacy. Most importantly, we are appealing to his family members to come forward so that we can help reunite him with them,” he added.
“Let us stand together to honour and support a man who gave us great memories through his music. It is time we give back to him with dignity, care, and compassion.”

Rescue operation
On Wednesday, November 19, 2025, Mosiria rescued a Kinyonga after he was found homeless and suffering on the streets of the capital.
“Today, I rescued from the streets of Nairobi the legendary musician and founder of the Simba wa Nyika band, which later became Les Wanyika. He has been suffering on the streets, homeless and vulnerable, and as a government, we cannot sit back and watch a Nairobi resident suffer. I responded immediately to the complaint, ensured he received new clothes and shoes, and personally took him to a home for the elderly where he can be safe and cared for,” Mosiria wrote on X
He further revealed that the musician mentioned that his roots are in Tanzania, formerly Tanganyika.
“His name is William Peter Kinyonga, anyone who knows his family, please reach out. He has mentioned that his home is in Tanzania, Tanganyika. We shall continue to support the less fortunate in our society – na lazima tufanye hii kazi,” Mosiria added.
