Geoffrey Mosiria has publicly expressed concern over the actions of Pastor Jimmy Irungu following a controversial incident in which the preacher was seen inside a coffin.

Irungu, who has been at the forefront of raising cancer awareness, sparked widespread reactions after a video circulating online showed him inside a coffin on Sunday, April 5, 2026.

The clip quickly drew attention across social media, with many Kenyans expressing concern and confusion over the message behind the act.

The Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, taking to his official social media accounts, said Irungu’s behaviour could point to a possible underlying mental health issue that may not be immediately apparent to the public.

Mosiria stated that he is ready to personally step in and support the pastor through a professional evaluation process.

“This man, Pastor Jimmy Irungu, could be battling a mental health problem and you may not know,” Mosiria said.

“I am ready to take him to the Rapid Rehabilitation Centre for Addiction for a mental health assessment and treatment, and I will take care of all his treatment expenses.”

He further appealed to members of the public who may have information about Irungu’s whereabouts to come forward, emphasising the need to ensure he receives appropriate care and attention.

However, Mosiria noted that his offer is dependent on the outcome of a medical assessment. He maintained that if the pastor is found to be mentally fit and was merely engaging in theatrics around a serious issue, then he should be held accountable.

“Anyone with his location, please let me know. However, if I get a medical assessment confirming that he is okay and that he is only joking about serious issues like this instead of preaching to reduce the number of deaths and helping to save lost souls, then he should be held accountable for his actions,” he added.

Drawing a biblical comparison, Mosiria referenced how Jesus Christ confronted wrongdoing in the temple, underscoring the responsibility of religious leaders to act with integrity and guide their followers appropriately.

“Just as Jesus confronted wrongdoing in the temple during His time,” Mosiria stated.

Irungu’s latest challenge

Mosiria’s concern comes days after Irungu announced a new endurance challenge in which he plans to sleep continuously for 50 hours as part of efforts to raise cancer awareness.
