Nairobi County Government’s Citizen Engagement and Customer Care boss, Geoffrey Mosiria, has issued a stern warning to scrap metal dealers following a spate of vandalism and theft of public infrastructure in the Central Business District (CBD).
In a statement on Monday, January 5, 2026, Mosiria expressed deep concern about repeated incidents in which dustbins, streetlights, and other metallic installations have been stolen from public spaces and sold to scrap dealers for a few coins.
He described the acts as unacceptable, noting that they undermine the progress the county has made in transforming Nairobi into a modern, orderly city.
“It is deeply painful that after the great work of transforming our city, some individuals still choose to vandalise and steal government installations within the CBD, including dustbins, streetlights, and other metallic infrastructure, only to sell them for a few coins to scrap metal dealers. This is unacceptable and undermines the progress we are making as a city,” he said.

The official called on all residents to take responsibility for protecting public infrastructure, emphasising that the community has a role in safeguarding assets that belong to everyone.
Mosiria specifically addressed scrap metal dealers, warning them to stop buying stolen public property.
He reminded them that anyone found in possession of stolen items will be treated as a thief and prosecuted according to the law.
“You know very well when items are stolen, and anyone found in possession of stolen public property will be treated as a thief and dealt with according to the law. There will be no excuses,” he added.

Further, he urged Nairobians to work together to maintain and protect the city, ensuring that it remains beautiful, orderly, and dignified for all residents.
“Let us work together to make our city even more beautiful, orderly, and dignified than it is today,” he added.
