Motorists on Mombasa Road have taken to social media platforms following a huge traffic snarl up along the busy route.

This comes amid ongoing road repair works along the Mlolongo-Syokimau stretch towards Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).

“Heavy traffic on Mombasa road. Highway closed at the express way entrance. Diversions either to Express Way or service lane,” Anyango Akumu said.

The traffic build up seems to have come as a surprise to road users along the route. “Heavy traffic on Mombasa Road from Sabaki towards Mlolongo,” said John Muli.

Motorists took issue with the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), citing failure by the road agency to issue a prior notice.

“With all due respect, why close a major road like Mombasa road at Mlolongo during peak time?” posed Davis Naaam, an X user.

He questioned the move to divert all vehicles to the service lane which is currently being used by trailers checking into the weighbridge, terming it as unreasonable.

“Mlolongo going to town is at a standstill. Someone has closed a section of the road this early morning for whatever reason,” added Nicholas Kyalo.

He further called out KeNHA and the contractors for closing a section of the highway on a weekday for re-carpeting.

Motorists from Mombasa general direction, Athi River, Kitengela, Mlolongo and Machakos use the route.
