Daadab MP Farah Maalim has called for enhanced security measures for President William Ruto during the impeachment motion against his Deputy, Rigathi Gachagua. Speaking on the floor of the House on Tuesday, Maalim emphasized the critical importance of protecting the President.
“Not only do we have to protect the lives of 291 MPs who have appended their signatures, but we must also safeguard the system. The Inspector General must ensure the safety of the President. We know the kind of constitution we have; any reckless thug can decide to change the course of history. God forbid if anything were to happen to our President,” he said. Maalim further alleged that there might be individuals planning to harm the President, insisting that Ruto must be protected until the motion is concluded.
Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah echoed this sentiment, asserting the paramount importance of MPs’ security. He called on the Inspector General of Police to ensure their safety both inside and outside Parliament. “The matter we are handling in Parliament is not of an ordinary nature,” Ichung’wah stated.
Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, the mover of the impeachment motion, clarified that he harbors no personal vendetta against the Deputy President. “I have no grudge, malice, ill will, or personal vendetta against His Excellency Rigathi Gachagua. I’m just doing my duty as a citizen of the Republic of Kenya,” he said. Mutuse explained that he is acting in support of fidelity to the constitution, adherence to the rule of law, and respect for God—qualities he described as the hallmarks of a great nation.
