Mumia East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya accused President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance of using his name to attack any possible presidential ambitions by opposition leader Raila Odinga.

In his September 19, 2023, statement, Honorable Salasya accused UDA’s propaganda machine of using his name as he shared a screenshot of a pseudo account bearing his name bundled together with an account also bearing the names of government blogger Dennis Itumbi, and both accounts sharing the same message.

“My official Twitter is this one I am posting from, please. UDA should focus on delivering the mandate they promised Kenyans, not working on propaganda. Bringing me on this is a big no. I respect Baba Raila Odinga,” said Honorable Salasya as he tagged Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua and Eugene Wamalwa.

Honorable Salasya is a Baba loyalist, having campaigned on a Democratic Action Party-Kenya ticket.

DAP-K is one of the parties in the opposition Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance in which Raila is the Principal.

Earlier, the pseudo-Salasya account had tweeted that any attempts by Raila Odinga to vie for presidency a sixth time in 2027 is a silly idea.

“I am a full-time Raila Odinga supporter, I have voted for him many times. But in 2027, baba needs to support another candidate. Let’s have Kalonzo Musyoka, the man who has stood by him, get his reward. If loyalty is rewarded, then reward him. Baba the 6th is a silly idea,” the pseudo-Salasya account shared.

There have been talks and push to have Raila Odinga vie for a sixth time in 2027 after he lost to President William Ruto by a mere 200,000 votes.

The opposition claimed the election had been rigged and challenged the results, only to lose the petition at the Supreme Court of Kenya.

However, in January 2023, Raila announced that his Orange Democratic Movement party would revamp from the grassroots to the national level ahead of the 2027 elections.

While Raila himself did not definitively say he would vie again, those around him have been dropping hints and lobbying to have him run for the presidency again, saying he is still a formidable leader despite his age.
