Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has urged Parliament to thoroughly vet President William Ruto’s Cabinet nominees and reject those with corruption allegations. Mwangangi emphasized that Parliament has been given a chance to redeem itself following what appeared to be a vote of no confidence when young protesters stormed the complex a few weeks ago.
Speaking on Sunday at King’oti ABC Church in Matungulu, he stated that the unprecedented invasion of Parliament sends a strong message to leaders to refrain from conducting business as usual and to be cautious in their decision-making regarding the country’s affairs.
“Wananchi getting into Parliament was like a vote of no confidence in the government,” he said.
“Let Parliament now vet the cabinet nominees and pick clean Kenyans who are not tainted by corruption.”
Mwangangi also called on Kenyans to support Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka for President, reminding them that Musyoka served as vice president under President Mwai Kibaki during a period of significant economic growth and development.
He urged Kenyans to give Musyoka the opportunity to continue Kibaki’s legacy. Additionally, Mwangangi challenged political leaders in the Ukambani region to unite in order to strengthen the community’s political bargaining power on the national stage. He emphasized that political unity is essential for the Kamba community to enhance its influence in national politics, noting that divisions among some leaders in the region are hindering progress.
“It’s important for our political leaders to set their differences and ambitions aside and come together and speak with one voice in politics and chart their political future to avoid splitting the community,”he added.
