A mud marathon, dubbed ‘mudthon,’ took place in Embu to promote mental health and conservation. The event was organized by Camp Ndunda Falls, a recreation park managed by the Njukiri Community Forest Association, and was held deep in the forest, allowing participants to experience the slopes of Mt. Kenya.

Francis Murimi, chairman of the Njukiri Community Forest Association (CFA), stated that funds raised from activities at Camp Ndunda Falls have contributed to restoring the forest, which had suffered damage from illegal logging and encroachment.

He emphasized that the terrain and obstacles within the forest are beneficial for promoting mental well-being and physical exercise, providing a relaxing experience along the scenic nature trail.

Participants faced 25 obstacles throughout the forest, including a Bale bound, a well swing, jumping over a fire, crawling under a net in the Devil’s Beard, and navigating through muddy tunnels on a mudslide.

The oldest participant, Emmanuel Kagamu, 58, attempted all the obstacles and was recognized for his efforts and bravery.
