Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has made an appeal to the international community, urging global supporters to join forces in addressing the critical issue of refugee management.

The call came during his recent meeting with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, at a High-Level dialogue held in Geneva.

“Honored to have represented the Kenyan government at the High-Level dialogue in Geneva, Switzerland, focusing on the issue of refugee management,” Mudavadi stated.

In a statement on his official X account, Mudavadi emphasized the importance of recognizing the challenges faced by host countries and communities in managing the ever-growing refugee populations.

According to the Prime CS, Kenya, as a host country accommodating over 700,000 refugees, finds itself at the forefront of this issue and has been commended for its pivotal role in promoting peace in neighbouring countries, thereby creating favourable conditions for voluntary repatriation.

Both leaders acknowledged the need for a comprehensive approach that involves all stakeholders to effectively address the complex challenges associated with refugee management.

Mudavadi mentioned that Kenya’s commitment to finding sustainable solutions for refugees and host communities is evident through its championing of the ‘Camps to Settlements’ concept under the ‘Shirika Plan Initiative’, which is currently under review.

Mudavadi expressed gratitude for the recognition of Kenya’s role in fostering regional peace and emphasized the importance of international support.

“We call upon our global partners to support our efforts in refugee management that seeks to empower both refugees and host communities,” Mudavadi wrote.
