In his condolence message, Governor Badilisha Kiarie said Ms Kimathi deserved a state burial for her role in fighting for Kenya’s independence and the rights of Mau Mau fighters and Kenyans in general.

“It is a sad day for Nyandarua and Kenyans, we have lost our mother, a role model, a person whose advice we relied on even in her old age, she was a mother to the nation. It is early days but we are talking to the family about the way forward. I assure them that the county and national government and all Kenyans will stand with them in this hour of grief.”
