Murang’a: 8 high school students in serious condition after school bus overturns

Eight students from Mariiira secondary school in Murang’a county are currently nursing serious injuries after an accident involving their school bus along the Naromoru-Nanyuki road.

Laikipia county director of medical services Waihenya Mwangi while confirming the incident noted that the students were involved in the accident as they were heading to Ol Pejeta conservancy, Laikipia county for an education tour.

It was reported that the bus carrying 34 students overturned after the bus driver lost control.

Mwangi noted that they had received 34 students. Out of this, eight were seriously injured, while others suffered minor injuries.

“Following the accident, we have received 34 students. Eight of them have serious injuries and are in the theatre. Some had minor injuries but the majority suffered shock and are undergoing counselling,” he said.

Police arrived at the scene and towed

The cause of the accident is yet to be established.
Separate incident

The latest comes barely hours after three more students died following a fatal road crash that involved a Pwani university bus and a matatu in Naivasha on Thursday, March 30, 2023.

The recent deaths brought the total number of deaths to 17 after th other 14 died on Thursday, March 30, 2023.

The students lost their lives after their bus experienced a brake failure as they were heading for a sports event.
