The decomposing body of an unidentified man was on Tuesday found floating at Cheplebekon stream in Belgut, Kericho County.
Kapcheluch sub-location Assistant Chief Collins Ruto said the decomposing body was discovered through a strong stench emanating from the area.
The stench was first noticed by women who had gone to the stream to wash clothes and fetch water on Sunday.
According to the administrator, however, the stench became unbearable as it spread to nearby homes, forcing residents to mount a search for its origin.
After a brief search, the residents discovered the decomposing body of a man suspected to be in his late 30s only dressed in a par of trousers.
The incident was reported to the Kabianga Police Post, after which officers rushed to the scene and removed the body.
Police officers are yet to identify the deceased since no identification documents were found at the scene.
The body has since been taken to the Sigowet sub-county hospital mortuary for preservation.
