Nairobi County inspectorate officers popularly known as Kanjos will be rolling on new wheels after Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja unveiled new vehicles set to replace the old jalopies they used to hang on while chasing hawkers in the city.
Sakaja while addressing the press, noted that the officers would ride in Isuzu double-cab pickups. He noted that the new vehicles will assist the mobility of the officers and ensure quality service delivery.
The governor was speaking in Nairobi during the flagging-off ceremony where 17 pick-ups were unveiled.
“The other day I heard that you had apprehended people and the car got stuck, with prisoners inside. It’s a big embarrassment. I promise you that we will deal with them and phase them out. You will not see them again very soon.
“We said we want to give them dignity, but dignity starts with how we treat ourselves and how we treat you, the people of Nairobi,” the county head said.
Additionally, the county boss urged the aforementioned officers to use the new vehicles to serve the people of Nairobi and not harass them.
“These are tools to serve the people in our delivery, not to harass the people of Nairobi. But the people of Nairobi must also obey the rules,” Sakaja added.
Further Sakaja affirmed that his office was embarking on a mission to keep the city clean by setting up disposal trucks.
He also assured city residents that individuals who occupy public spaces will be dealt with lawfully.
