Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja recently made a development tour in Eastleigh area, a Nairobi suburb, where he inspected construction and the rehabilitation of roads.
While visiting California estate, and Airbase wards in Kamukunji sub-county, the county boss said that his administration was working on ensuring the roads in the area are accessible.
“We will continue roads construction and maintenance to ease mobility and enhance movement of goods around the county. The ongoing rehabilitation of sewer lines will ensure Nairobi residents live in dignity,” Sakaja said.
Among the roads the governor toured includes Timboroa and Waudo roads in California ward, where the roads have been rehabilitated by the county.
He also inspected the ongoing rehabilitation of sewer lines, and road constructions in 7th Street and 9th Street, 1st Avenue in Eastleigh North Ward.
While touring Airbase ward, the governor monitored the rehabilitation of 9th Street and 8th Street, 2nd Avenue which has been in bad shape for many years.
The governor reiterated on the need to ensure that mobility is effective, reliable and convenient across the Capital City.
Sakaja was accompanied by Kamukunji Member of Parliament Yusuf Hassan, and a host of Nairobi County Assembly MCAs.
The MP said that the area had been forgotten by the previous governors, and that the move taken by Sakaja was commendable.
“I have been the Kamukunji MP for four term, and this is the first time am seeing a governor constructing roads in Kamukunji constituency,” Yusuf said.
The ongoing roads projects are funded by Ward Development Fund.
Last month, the governor launched rehabilitation of several streets, and walkways in Nairobi CBD.
As part of ensuring that the CBD is accessible, the governor announced new measures that will see hawkers operating from 2pm, and are not allowed to block walkways, and roads.
This also comes as more than 3,000 county green army team, which is mandated with unblocking the drainages, and cleaning the area continue with their work.
