Lang’ata Member of Parliament (MP) Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has declared support for the broad-based government, noting that he has chosen to risk and stick with the side.

The MP made his stand known after a meeting on Friday, February 6, 2026, hinting at a face-off with the rival side in the future.

Acknowledging the implications of his choice, Jalang’o decided to pursue his ambitions, noting that Nairobi is truly broad-based.

“In The Burdens, John Ruganda reminds us: too much ambition may break a man; too little takes him nowhere. I choose to risk being broken rather than stand still,” Jalang’o stated on Facebook on Friday, February 6, 2026.

He added that the journey has begun, and turning back is not an option; he pursues his ambitions with the political camp backing the broad-based government.

“The journey has begun—no turning back. Today, ODM and UDA Nairobi women leaders met to affirm and solidify that Nairobi is truly broad-based. Tukutane mbele!” he added.

Jalang’o, who is serving his first term as an MP, was sponsored by the Orange Democratic Movement party.

Differences of opinion have, however, emerged in the period following former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s death, with two rival camps emerging.

One faction, led by party leader Oburu Odinga, is in support of the broad-based government and has warmed up to the party backing President William Ruto’s reelection bid in 2027.

To this end, the Siaya Senator has been on a political blitz, traversing the country to meet party delegates and rally them behind the ongoing engagements with UDA.

The other camp is critical of the broad-based government arrangement and has questioned the speed with which ODM is moving to craft a working arrangement with UDA.

The faction has ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Siaya Governor James Orengo and Vihiga Senator George Osotsi.

Sifuna recently questioned the source of funds used to popularise the ongoing talks with UDA, revealing that, according to a signatory of the party’s accounts, the funds are not coming from the party’s coffers.
