Police in Nairobi on Friday arrested four suspects for alleged involvement in a spate of armed robberies in Nairobi and the Western region.
Nairobi Police Commander George Seda said the suspects were found in possession of three guns and more than 40 rounds of ammunition.
Police officers are pursuing additional suspects to uncover a broader armed robbery syndicate involving both Kenyan and Ugandan nationals.
CCTV footage dated May 6, 2025, shows four armed men entering Tawhid Wholesalers in Eastleigh, Nairobi. Brandishing a gun, the men are seen breaking into a safe, stuffing money into a bag, and then ransacking items in the shop. One is seen wielding a knife, while another casually walks around armed with a machete.
In another CCTV clip dated March 2025, the suspects are seen harassing traders at an unidentified shop, brandishing a knife while stealing various items. However, it was the end of the road for four of these suspects who were arrested on Friday.
Nairobi Region Commander George Seda revealed that three firearms were recovered during the arrest, including an AK-47 assault rifle loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition, and two other guns with a combined 20 rounds of ammunition.
“We have done profiling of the persons in possession of these firearms. These people have been committing crimes in Pangani, Starehe, and other areas of South C, and that coordination is what has led us here,” Seda stated.
The suspects have been identified as Sam Wafula, Alex Ogomba, Mohammed Musa, and Clinton Wafula. They are currently assisting police with investigations to uncover a larger robbery syndicate operating in Nairobi and Western Kenya.
“Out of the four, three are from our neighboring Uganda and one is a Kenyan. So just imagine how they have gone a notch higher — we have a local person as the mastermind, then a cross-border team comes to execute,” the police commander added.
A motorbike suspected to have been used by the suspects has also been confiscated as police expand their dragnet.
