The Nairobi City County Government has enhanced its service delivery capabilities with the implementation of a backup internet link through Starlink satellite technology. This upgrade provides the Customer Service Centre at City Hall with internet speeds ranging between 120 Mbps and 200 Mbps.

Key Points:

– Enhanced Connectivity: The integration of Starlink satellite technology ensures that essential customer services remain operational even during primary network outages. This improvement aims to foster a seamless and uninterrupted experience for Nairobi residents relying on digital services.

– Statements from Officials:
– Tiras Njoroge, ICT Infrastructure Chief Officer, highlighted that the upgrade will facilitate faster and more reliable access to the Nairobi Pay system and improve overall service delivery.
– Truphena Ogonda, ICT Infrastructure County Director, emphasized that the new infrastructure will handle higher data loads, supporting ambitious plans for expanding e-government services and strengthening the shift toward fully digital service provision.

– Support for Governor Sakaja’s Manifesto: The technological enhancement aligns with Governor Johnson Sakaja’s manifesto, which emphasizes using technology to streamline county operations.

– Starlink’s Role: Introduced to the Kenyan market in July 2023, Starlink, powered by SpaceX, uses a network of satellites in low Earth orbit to deliver high-speed internet with low latency. It is particularly beneficial for providing coverage in remote and underserved areas where traditional internet service providers may not reach.
