A Nairobi single father has taken his job search to the streets of the CBD, walking through the city centre with his toddler on his back and a handwritten placard around his neck, hoping a stranger will give him a chance.
Felix, a driver with nine years of experience behind the wheel, lost his job in 2024 and has spent the better part of two years unable to secure another position.
His background spans corporate driving and delivery work, yet despite his experience, every door has remained closed.
Nairobi dad seeks driving job
With two children depending on him and no income coming in, Felix told TUKO.co.ke that the situation had pushed him to a point he never imagined he would reach.
“Things are bad. I can barely feed my two children, pay for my firstborn’s school fees, pay my rent and even feed them three meals a day. I want to thank my landlord because of his patience. I owe him about six months’ rent, and he still allows me and my children to live in the house,” Felix said.
The placard he carried through the city read:
“Dear Kenyans I am seeling for a job, I am a driver me and my daughter we are going through a difficult time. This is my number 0708907500. Please help us so we do not end up on the streets.”
His three-year-old daughter accompanied him on the walk, a sight that drew attention from passers-by in the busy central business district.
Felix appeals to Kenyans for any job
Felix stressed that he is not limiting himself to driving roles. He is prepared to take on any available work as long as it allows him to provide for his children and restore some stability to their lives.
His landlord’s willingness to accommodate six months of unpaid rent has been the single thread holding his household together, and Felix was keen to publicly acknowledge that act of goodwill.
The desperate father said he hoped that walking the streets with his daughter would put a human face to his appeal and move someone with the ability to help into action, before his family’s situation worsens further.
