Nairobi South MCA Waithera Chege says life is in danger

Nairobi South Ward Member of County Assembly Waithera Chege says her life is in danger.

Through a letter to Speaker Kennedy Ng’ondi, the MCA said she is afraid some unnamed people who intend to grab a piece of land at South B shopping centre are also after her life.

She stated that her pursuit towards repossession of the public grabbed land has exposed her security, where by the unknown individuals have been intimidating and threatening her.

“Should something happen to me, then you know who to look for. I have already recorded a statement at the police station on the same under OB No.09/9/82023 at Richfield Police Station, south B,” part of the letter reads.

The Speaker is set to make the ruling over her letter on August 10, 2023.

According to the MCA, the public land under registration LR.NO 209/12621 was invaded and grabbed by the private developer on August 2, and the attempts from the residents to reclaim it has not been successful so far.

She stated that the land had been earmarked for the construction of a modern market, which would have benefitted the locals.

Several businesses were disrupted following the conflict between the locals and the private developer over the land in question.

This comes as Governor Johnson Sakaja’s administration intensifies war against public land grabbers in Nairobi.

Recently, the county government demolished a building that had been built my Airbase Ward MCA in a land housing Eastleigh health facility.

Another incident was reported recently where the private developer attempted to grab a land where Kimathi Primary School in Maringo Hamza Ward sits on.

The cases of land grabbing in Nairobi County have recently increased even as Governor Sakaja sends a warning, stating that no one will be spared by hi administration.

Lavingtone Primary School in Dagoretti North has also been facing threats from the private developer, a case that was recently brought to conclusion after the Governor handed over the school’s title deed to the area Member of Parliament, Beatrice Elachi.
