Nairobi United FC has appointed experienced tactician Godfrey ‘Solo’ Oduor as their new head coach, ending weeks of speculation following the departure of Nicholas Muyoti.
Oduor joins the Naibois from the South Sudanese side Jamus FC, where he has served as assistant coach since 2024, and now steps into one of the most demanding roles of his coaching career.
The reigning FKF Cup champions had been searching for a substantive head coach since Muyoti left the club a fortnight ago to take up the role of head coach at league defending champions Kenya Police FC.
In the interim, Technical Director Salim Ali took charge of the team and steadied the ship, guiding Nairobi United to one win and two draws in three matches.
Oduor brings with him a wealth of experience built across club and national team football. He joined Jamus FC from Shabana FC in 2024 and quickly became a key figure in the technical bench.
During his time with the South Sudanese moneybags, he twice served as interim head coach and played a role in helping the club qualify for continental football, further enhancing his credentials.
His coaching journey began at Kibera Black Stars, where he led the club from the provincial leagues to the National Super League between 2016 and 2019.
He later served as head coach of Nzoia Sugar FC on two separate occasions and spent four seasons as assistant coach at KCB FC.
Oduor has also worked extensively at the national team level, serving as assistant coach and interim head coach of the Harambee Starlets, as well as assistant coach of the Kenya U-20 national team.
Oduor has previously worked under several notable coaches, including former AFC Leopards head coach Andre Casa Mbungo and Ethiopian tactician Wubetu Abate, experiences that have shaped his tactical philosophy and man-management skills.
At Nairobi United, expectations are high. The former Harambee Starlets head coach has been tasked with guiding the club to at least the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup, securing a top-three finish in the Kenyan Premier League, and defending the FKF Cup to guarantee continental football next season.
His immediate test comes this Sunday, January 25, when Nairobi United hosts Tanzanian side Azam FC in a crucial CAF Confederation Cup group stage clash at the Nyayo National Stadium.
For Oduor, it is a baptism of fire, and for the Naibois, the start of a new chapter driven by ambition and belief.
