Nairobi County’s Citizen Engagement and Customer Care boss, Geoffrey Mosiria, is seeking the owner of a large snake that was killed in Nairobi’s Central Business District.

In a statement shared via his social media pages on Monday, December 29, 2025, Mosiria raised concern over the incident, which he said occurred on Sunday evening at around 7:00 pm near the Kencom area.

“I am just wondering who is the owner of this snake that was killed yesterday evening around 7:00 pm in the CBD near Kencom by our ‘Chambes,’ the street boys?” Mosiria stated.

He noted that the reptile was not a small animal and questioned how such a snake could be kept within the city without the knowledge of the Kenya Wildlife Service.

“This is not a small lizard from ushago, my people. This is a proper snake. Now the big question is: how do you tame an animal this big, and KWS is not aware of it? Or are we now keeping snakes in bedsitters like pets?” he asked.

Mosiria went on to offer condolences to the owner, acknowledging the loss, but maintained that serious questions needed to be answered.

“First, my condolences to the owner. Loss is loss. But again, why keep such a reptile in the middle of the CBD? Ama ndio ilikuwa inachunga biashara?” he posed.

He called on members of the public to help identify the snake’s owner, saying this would allow county officials to determine whether more reptiles are being kept in the area.

“If anyone knows the owner of this snake, kindly let us know so that we can visit his premises and confirm how many more snakes are remaining,” Mosiria said.

He stressed that Nairobi residents have a right to know whether dangerous animals are being kept within the city.

“Nairobi residents deserve to know whether we are sharing the city with humans only or humans and reptiles. Anyway, help me locate the owner,” Mosiria added.
