Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Kennedy Ng’ondi is facing a political storm amid a reported fallout with a section of Members of County Assembly allied to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

The fallout, initially explained through murmurs, finally came to the fore on October 4, 2023, when Minority Leader Anthony Kiragu complained before the house that there was little or no action from the Speaker to matters touching on members.

“There has been complaints about sexual harassment from the board but the Office of the Speaker has done nothing about it,” said Kiragu amid low tones from both the government and opposition side in the house.

The Speaker was not present in the house at the time with a member of his panel invited to hold brief.

After the session, Kiragu invited the media for a briefing with a promise to ‘unleash a dossier about the Speaker’s office’.

Only to change his mind before he could address the press conference and reschdule the briefing.

Nairobi News understands the Majority leader changed his mind after a meeting with a section of UDA members.

This is the first case of wrangles between the Speaker and members in the Assembly, which has appeared intact since the 2022 polls.

The Speaker is enjoying protection from the Majority side of the Assembly, which incidentally consists the Azimio la Umoja MCAs

“Let him come and make the address if he’s a man enough. I’m here, not going anywhere until he comes out,” one of the Azimio member was heard shouting at the members launch.

Since assuming office, Governor Johnson Sakaja has had to grapple with a County Assembly that has a majority of members from the opposition’s Azimio la Umoja coalition.
