A 30-year-old man narrowly escaped death after being shot in the neck by a police officer outside a nightclub during a performance by visiting Jamaican reggae star Glen Washington. Ngugi, who was at the event with friends, was shot at point-blank range by an officer from the Critical Infrastructure Police Unit (CIPU) following a brief altercation.
Witnesses reported that the confrontation began when the allegedly intoxicated officer urinated on Ngugi’s motorcycle, parked outside the popular venue. Ngugi confronted the officer about his actions, leading to the violent escalation. A close female friend of Ngugi, who wished to remain anonymous due to fears of retaliation, described the events. She claimed she saw the officer urinating on the motorcycle before the argument erupted. During the altercation, the officer drew his firearm and shot Ngugi, with the bullet passing through his neck and fracturing his collarbone.
Ngugi was immediately taken to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. His family is now seeking justice, with his mother, Hannah Waceke, expressing her shock at the news of her son’s shooting.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched an investigation into the incident. Naivasha CID boss Isaac Kiama confirmed that both CIPU and DCI officers are looking into the case. “At the moment, I don’t have full details of what transpired, but we are awaiting the official report from the investigating officers before taking further action,” Kiama stated.
Ngugi’s family and friends are urging authorities to act swiftly and hold the officer responsible for the near-fatal shooting accountable.
