Police have detained a 17-year-old girl in connection with the murder of a three-year-old child in Bahati constituency, Nakuru County.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, June 22, 2025, near a local church where the victim’s family had attended a service.
According to the child’s mother, Regina Wangui, she had gone to a service at PCEA Shalom Mchanganyiko Church with her eight-year-old son and the deceased daughter.
After the service, the family stopped at a medical checkup event organized by the same church.
It was during this time that Wangui noticed her youngest child was missing.
Moments later, the toddler was found unconscious just a few meters from the church’s main gate.
She was rushed to Kenlands Hospital, where medical staff pronounced her dead on arrival.
Nakuru North Sub-County Police Commander Lilies Wachira confirmed that a 17-year-old girl is in custody as investigations continue.
“Detectives are pursuing leads to establish the motive behind the incident,” Wachira said.
The body of the deceased child has been transferred to the PNN morgue for preservation, pending a post-mortem examination.
