Nameless celebrates Fred Obachi Machoka’s 50 years in media

Kenyan musician Nameless has celebrated veteran broadcaster Fred Obachi Machoka as he marks 50 years in the media industry, reflecting on his own journey and the lessons he has drawn from Machoka’s longevity.

In an Instagram post on Thursday, October 8, 2026, Nameless shared moments from a gathering at JKL, where he was pictured alongside Machoka, Patrick Njiru, Jeff Koinange and Mwalimu Churchill.

‘OG Bench’ with media legends

Nameless jokingly described the group as the “OG Bench”, saying their combined age and experience were more than 300 years.

“Hapa combine age and experience is more than 300 years! OG Bench!” he wrote.

He added that he felt like a Gen Z while in the company of the veteran personalities, joking that Churchill was the only one he could consider his younger brother in the group.

Nameless said the gathering was connected to Machoka’s upcoming 50th anniversary celebration, which is set for Saturday, October 10, at Ulinzi Grounds.

Inspired by Machoka’s journey

The musician expressed admiration for Machoka’s ability to build a career spanning five decades, saying the veteran broadcaster’s journey had inspired him.

“We were here because of Fred Obachi Machoka, who is celebrating 50 years in media,” Nameless wrote.

He also noted that Machoka’s longevity had made him reflect on his own career, which has now reached 25 years.

“I am truly inspired by Uncle Fred’s journey and resilience! Me niko 25 years, and this shows me how much more I still have to do!” he said.

Nameless has previously spoken about the importance of remaining relevant across generations, describing Machoka’s continued presence in the industry as proof that long careers are possible.

A celebration of a media legend

According to Nameless, Machoka’s anniversary celebration will feature several established musicians, including Congolese star Koffi Olomide, Cameroonian singer Sam Fan Thomas and Them Mushrooms, alongside other benga artists.

The October 10 event will honour Machoka’s five decades in broadcasting, with several international rhumba performers expected to join the celebrations.

Nameless ended his post by encouraging his followers to attend the celebration and share what they remember and love about Machoka’s career.

His message has highlighted how Machoka’s five-decade journey continues to inspire even established entertainers who have built long careers of their own.
