Police in Nandi County are investigating a fire incident at Father Khun Secondary School in Emgwen Constituency which has forced over 60 students to spend the night in the cold after the girl’s dormitory was razed down on Wednesday, May 17.

The inferno also destroyed one classroom, and students’ personal items.

The parents of the students are calling on the police to carry out a proper investigation to find the cause of the inferno after it was established that it was not caused by an electric fault.

The fire reportedly started in one of the dormitories and later spread to two classrooms in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Nandi County fire team arrived at the scene and helped put out the fire before it could cause more destruction.

There were no casualties in the inferno.

Fire probe

Education County Director Harrison Muriuki said the cause of the fire is yet to be established, adding that a team from the ministry has been dispatched to the school to obtain further information concerning the incident.

“Yes, we are aware of the inferno which happened earlier today but it was managed. Students will not be sent home and are expected to remain in school even as the ministry organizes a boarding facility for students who lost all their belongings to the inferno,” Muriuki said.

School Principal Alice Ondiek was hesitant to address K24 Digital saying the matter was sensitive and she could interfere with already begun investigations

Emgwen Member of Parliament Josses Lelmengit bought mattresses and blankets which will aid the affected students.
