Schools across Nanyuki and the Laikipia region are set to gain new classrooms, a modern computer laboratory and student scholarships after the Rotary Club of Nanyuki announced the sixth edition of its Motor Maze fundraising event, scheduled for Saturday, October 17, 2026.

In a press release from the club, the event kicks off at 7am along Muthaiga Road in Nanyuki town. It promises a blend of off-road adventure, teamwork and community purpose that has made it one of the region’s most anticipated annual drives.

What Motor Maze Involves

Motor Maze is far from a leisurely road trip. Participants follow clues, navigate unfamiliar terrain and solve challenges as they move through different locations around Nanyuki and the broader Laikipia area.

This year marks a notable shift for the event, which spent the previous three editions entirely within Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Organisers say returning teams can expect fresh routes and new challenges as the drive ventures further into the region.

Importantly, ownership of a four-wheel-drive vehicle is not a requirement. Rotary Club of Nanyuki President Alex Mwangi Kamau confirmed that many standard cars are well suited to the terrain, widening participation to a broader range of motoring enthusiasts.

For many Kenyans, Nanyuki, fondly referred to as “Mwisho wa Reli,” is already a favourite destination for weekend getaways, road trips and leisure. This year’s Motor Maze offers visitors an additional draw, combining the town’s well-known hospitality and wildlife experiences with a sense of shared purpose that extends beyond the drive itself.

Education at the Heart of the Drive

The money raised will be directed towards three specific projects: construction of Early Childhood Development and Education classrooms at Kabanga Primary School, a new ICT laboratory at Nanyuki DEB Primary and Junior School, and the Rotary Scholarship Programme supporting deserving students in the region.

Kamau said the event has grown well beyond its original concept, having raised more than KSh3.5 million across its five previous editions. Those funds have supported community projects spanning education, healthcare, access to clean water, and environmental conservation.

“Motor Maze is where adventure meets purpose,” Kamau said, describing the event as a vehicle for converting outdoor fun into meaningful community investment.

He expanded on the vision behind the annual drive, noting its broader significance for local learners.

“Motor Maze gives participants the chance to enjoy an unforgettable adventure in nature while raising funds that create educational opportunities for deserving students. It’s a powerful way of turning fun into lasting impact,” he added.
