NCPB and Nairobi Water maintain tempo in local handball league

The National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) Mens’ Handball team and the Nairobi Water Womens’ handball team are continuing with their dominance as the Kenya Handball Federation league continued at the weekend.

NCPB silenced Black Mamba 27-17 in a thrilling fixture at the Nyayo Stadium Handball Courts. Cereals’ Timothy Kisimu had seven field goals while Brian Walacha had six and Nicholas Okobe managed four goals. NCPB led by a slim 11-8 at the break in a competitive half. Mamba had their moments as well on the opponents territory and saw Morgan Juma on five goals followed by Victor Luvale on four goals.NCPB currently leads with 34 points off17 games played with no loss yet in the season.

In other Mens’ games,Nairobi City County won 24-21 against Spartan with a slim advantage. Jim Korolla led the charts with eight goals in this match for NCC as they took a 12-09 lead at the break. Zedrick Kibet weighed in with six and Vincent Odhiambo on four for the City County side. On the opposite end, Robert Guyo on six goals was top-scorer. Meanwhile Desert Scorpions stunned Kenyatta University 33-27 with Benson Mutinda on form scoring 14 goals in the game that had Scorpion lead 14-13 at half-time.

As for the the Ladies Championship, Nairobi Water spanked Amazon 34-15 with the pair of Gladys Chilo and Brenda Ariviza both on eight goals. The game which saw Water lead 15-09 at the break had a lot of running involved from both ends. However the Amazon team had little organization in defense which saw them get punished. Incidentally, Amazon, which lost heavily to NCPB 40-16 in a separate game,also came alive to win 44-17 against Nairobi City County and 63-32 Rising Star.
