Ndia MP accuses Gachagua of dividing Mt Kenya region for political gain

Ndia Member of Parliament (MP) George Kariuki has unleashed an attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of pretending to unite Mount Kenya while secretly dividing the region for his own political gain.

Speaking in the Ndia constituency on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, during the launch of the Gacharu-Kamina road, Kariuki said Gachagua has become a bitter, directionless politician who has turned his anger into a weapon against leaders supporting the Kenya Kwanza government.

“Gachagua keeps claiming he’s uniting Mt Kenya, but everyone can see the truth: he is creating division, hatred, and tension among our people. His words are poisonous, and his actions are destructive,” Kariuki said.

The Ndia MP accused Gachagua of hypocrisy, saying he has been preaching unity in public while fighting leaders in private.

“He pretends to be the defender of the mountain, yet he spends all his time insulting and undermining those who are working with the government. That is not unity; that is deceit,” Kariuki said.

Kariuki revealed that Gachagua recently visited Ndia and verbally attacked him for refusing to join his political camp.

“He came here not to talk about roads or schools but to insult me. He called me a traitor because I chose to work with the government.

But if being a traitor means bringing development and progress to my people, then I am proud to be one,” Kariuki fired back.

He described Gachagua as a failed leader who cannot be trusted, saying he wasted his chance when he was Deputy President.

“Let him tell us what he did for Mt Kenya when he was in power. Nothing. He failed Kenyans and failed the region. Now he wants to use tribal emotions to stay relevant; that’s leadership by blackmail,” Kariuki added.

Kariuki dismissed Gachagua’s self-proclaimed title as the Mt Kenya kingpin, saying no one appointed him to lead the region.

“No one gave Gachagua authority to lecture anyone. He is not our kingpin. He should stop forcing himself on the people. Mt Kenya is not his personal property,” Kariuki declared.

He also condemned Gachagua’s constant attacks on female leaders, calling them shameful and cowardly.

“It is disgraceful that a former Deputy President has now turned his frustration on women like Governor Anne Waiguru and Governor Cecily Mbarire. Anyone who insults women leaders has lost direction and needs a mental check-up,” Kariuki said.

The MP’s remarks come just a day after supporters allied to Governor Waiguru took to the streets of Kutus town, condemning Gachagua’s recent tour of Kirinyaga and Embu counties, where he launched attacks on the two governors.
