Ne-Yo brought the heat to Nairobi on Tuesday, October 20, headlining the One Night Only: Brunch Edition concert at Ulinzi Sports Complex in Lang’ata.

The event, which coincided with Mashujaa Day, sold out ahead of time and drew a crowd eager to see the American R&B star perform live for the first time in Kenya in over a decade.

How did Ne-Yo perform during the Nairobi concert?

His last major appearance in the country was a Coke Studio set back in 2015, making Tuesday’s headline slot a long-awaited homecoming of sorts for Kenyan R&B fans.

Gates opened at 2 pm, with the full programme running from 3 pm to 11 pm.

The event was billed as more than just a concert, blending live music, fashion, socialising and an outdoor brunch experience.

Attendees rose to the occasion with stylish outfits, statement accessories and elegant looks that turned the venue into a catwalk.

UK showband Sol & The Gang warmed up the crowd, while Kenyan artiste Mutoriah handled part of the opening entertainment.

The DJ lineup kept energy high between sets, with DJs Xclusive, Andy Young, Chunky, Jesse, Kronikx and Shema all taking turns on the decks. Mwalimu Rachel hosted the event.

When Ne-Yo finally took the stage, he delivered a performance that leaned heavily on nostalgia, running through some of his most beloved hits, including So Sick, Miss Independent and Closer. He also performed Marry You, his collaboration with Diamond Platnumz, which gave the set a distinctly East African flavour.
