The National Health Insurance Fund(NHIF) has suspended six private health facilities implicated in an expose for allegedly defrauding the fund through falsified claims for 90 days pending investigations.
The NHIF acting CEO Samson Kuhora said patients who were receiving outpatient treatment at the affected facilities had been notified to select alternative healthcare providers from the list of NHIF contracted facilities.
In a statement dated June 20, the facilities include Afya Bora Hospital, Afya Bora Hospital Annex, Jekim Hospital Nkubu Ltd, Jekim Medical Center, Joy Nursing and Maternity Eastleigh and St Peter’s Orthopedics and Surgical Specialty Hospital.
“In line with the human resource procedure manual, the board has decided to interdict staff members with immediate effect to pave way for investigations,” Kuhora said.
“The board vehemently condemns all forms of malpractice and fraudulent activities, including those perpetrated by NHIF staff and healthcare providers.”
Kuhora said the board will continue to review the performance of all providers to ensure the quality of delivery of services to NHIF beneficiaries.
He noted that the expose has shed light on healthcare facilities involved in scamming vulnerable Kenyans, misusing public resources and providing injurious healthcare services to patients.
