Nigerian songstress Tems has sparked debate her outfit that stole the show at the 2023 Oscars – at least for the helpless folks sitting behind her.
Tems, who was nominated for Best Original Song for the “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” track “Lift Me Up” wore an ostentatious puffy white gown which dramatically wrapped inches around her neck and head.
On the red carpet, she stunned but once she was seated inside the gilded Dolby Theatre, the flair wasn’t that much.
Photos of the “Try Me” hitmaker started doing rounds across Twitter – showing the singer sticking out from the crowd as people behind her struggled to crane their necks and catch a little action on the podium.
The dress, which was designed by Ukrainian-born fashion designer Lessja Verlingieri of Lever Couture, trended for the better part of the Oscars night with many calling Tems ‘rude’ and ‘insensitive’ for blocking people’s view.
Whilst the outfit spawned a memefest, other people came to Tems’ defense with one user tweeting, “Will not tolerate Tems slander… Stop crying and grow a longer neck.”
The high-flying singer, whose real name is Temilade Openiyi, wrote “Lift Me Up” which Rihanna also performed at the ceremony.
