Luanda Villa FC is currently unable to train at the Mumboha Grounds due to security concerns raised by the management of Mumboha Secondary School. The school has reported incidents of vandalism to its property during National Super League (NSL) matches, leading to the decision to restrict access.
According to Luanda Villa chairman Moses Abwenje, the team has relocated its training sessions to the sports grounds of Maseno School. He refuted claims that the club had also moved its home matches to neighboring counties, stating, “When candidates are preparing for their K.C.S.E, we usually shift our training sessions to Maseno. During weekends, we will host our matches at Mumboha, although the management has been blaming us whenever the fence is vandalized.”
Abwenje explained that the situation arose after the County Government demolished the school’s concrete wall while promising to reconstruct it after completing a nearby feeder road. In the interim, the club has been using iron sheets as makeshift fencing, which have been targeted by some fans trying to sell them as scrap metal, further straining the relationship with the school’s management.
As a contingency, Luanda Villa may have to follow the lead of Vihiga United and Vihiga Queens in seeking alternative venues for their matches outside Vihiga County, as Mumboha is currently the only field available for hosting NSL games. Abwenje confirmed that their alternative home grounds could be Moi Stadium Kisumu or Mumias Sports Complex if Mumboha is unavailable. He also called on local leaders, including Member of Parliament Dick Muangu and Senator Godfrey Osotsi, to engage with the Mumboha Secondary School management to find a workable solution for using the ground without causing further issues.
In the meantime, Abwenje urged Luanda Villa fans to refrain from accessing the stadium through the fence, as it negatively impacts the club’s relationship with the school.
