On Wednesday, June 12, DCI detectives arrested two notorious suspects believed to be behind a series of housebreaking incidents in Kiambu and Nairobi counties.
Lavender Akinyi Ogilo and Vincent Odhiambo Otieno were apprehended by detectives attached to the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) in connection with two housebreaking and theft incidents that occurred on April 1 and 19, 2024.
In the first incident, reported on April 1, suspected housebreakers broke into House No.17 in Kitisuru Terraces by removing a window pane from the kitchen door and mastering the padlock. Various items including TVs, an iPad, a MacBook laptop, and other valuables were stolen.
The second incident, which took place on April 19, 2024, involved the burglary of a house at Oak Valley Apartments located along Mvuli Road in Kileleshwa.
Six perpetrators broke in and managed to steal cash, but the homeowner interrupted the robbery upon returning home earlier than expected.
Despite sustaining minor injuries, the victim witnessed the robbers fleeing in a white vehicle (Reg.No KDG 305C), which then drove away.
Following a persistent manhunt, Lavender Akinyi was apprehended from her four-bedroom house in Kirigiti, while her accomplice was flushed out from a base in Kasarani.
A black Mercedes Benz T733 DTP used by the suspects in their criminal activities was also impounded, and efforts to apprehend the remaining four accomplices are ongoing.
Notably, the two arrested suspects were previously among a gang of six members nabbed and arraigned for a violent robbery by Kilimani detectives on May 18, 2019. Lavender had warrants of arrest issued against her for absconding court and jumping bail.
