Nuru Okanga, the self-proclaimed biggest supporter of Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga, was on Thursday, November 30, 2023, charged with the publication of false information about President William Ruto contrary to the law.

Okanga, who was arraigned before Nairobi Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina, denied the charge.

He is alleged to have published a controversial video about the President on his YouTube channel known as Riba News@ribanews.

According to the charge sheet, the suspect published false and calculated statements to discredit the reputation of the President on November 20, 2023.

After denying the charges, Okanga urged the court to release him on reasonable bail terms saying he would abide by all conditions set by the court.

The magistrate however granted him a cash bail of Ksh10,000.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) recommended the prosecution of Raila’s diehard supporter after officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested him on Wednesday.

Okanga has been in the limelight since the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results were announced last week.

The vocal political activist eyeing the Kholera ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat was among the candidates who sat for the primary school national examinations, and many Kenyans were looking forward to knowing how he performed.

Okanga has remained as elusive as he can be concerning his performance in the KCPE examinations, making some netizens conclude that he may have sat for the papers less than he had made them believe.
