A multi-agency team in Nyahururu town has destroyed 63 bags of bhang, which had been used as evidence in a court case. The operation was led by Nyahururu Deputy County Commissioner Bernard Ondino, along with the area Police Commander, officials from the Public Health Department, and the Judiciary.

This action followed an order by Nyahururu Resident Magistrate Fredrick Labara, who directed the destruction of the illegal consignment after the conclusion of a case in which a man was charged with possession of the bhang. The man, Benard Waiguru Mwangi, was found guilty of possession and trafficking and was fined Ksh 50 million or, in default, sentenced to 30 years in prison.

During the destruction, DCC Ondino expressed gratitude to the public for reporting the matter, which led to the swift arrest and prosecution of the offender. “Nyahururu is surrounded by several forests where cannabis sativa is grown in unattended areas, so vigilance is needed, and if there are any suspicious activities, the public should report them to us,” noted DCC Ondino.
