Kenyan rapper Nyamari Ongegu, better known as Nyashinski, has issued an apology to his fans after missing his performance at the highly anticipated Walker Town Festival last Sunday. In a statement shared through his Instagram stories, Nyashinski expressed regret for his absence despite being present and prepared to perform at the event.
“Greetings, my people. I truly appreciate you for spending your hard-earned money and braving the harsh weather to come and see me perform. We always work hard to give you an amazing show, worth your time and money,” he wrote. “I sincerely apologize for not being able to do so at Walker Town Festival this past Sunday.”
Nyashinski explained that while he and his team were at the venue and ready to perform, unforeseen circumstances beyond their control prevented them from taking the stage. “We were on site and ready, but due to factors beyond our control, we were unable to perform, as confirmed by our partners,” he said, acknowledging the disappointment and inconvenience caused.
He also thanked the event organizers and expressed optimism for future events, stating, “To our partners: Thank you for daring to create spectacular events for people to enjoy and for artists to showcase and earn from their art. I’m optimistic that upcoming events will be bigger, better, and we can once again make amazing memories.”
Following the event, East African Breweries Limited (EABL) announced that all ticket holders for the second day of the Walker Town Festival, held in Kasarani, Nairobi, would receive a full refund. In a statement on Monday, September 30, EABL apologized for the delays and mishaps, including the cancellation of Nyashinski’s performance due to heavy rains and technical issues.
EABL acknowledged the impact on concert-goers, who had to endure a late performance from headliner Lauryn Hill, as well as subpar sound quality. They promised to issue a one hundred percent refund to affected ticket holders within two weeks, reiterating their commitment to fairness and ensuring a better concert experience in the future. Fans had expressed frustration on social media, with many demanding refunds after the underwhelming event.
