New KCB Head Coach Patrick Odhiambo is confident that the team will be ready for the upcoming season, needing only a few additions to the squad he took over from former coach Bernard Mwalala. A former assistant coach at Gor Mahia, Odhiambo has already signed three new players since joining last month and plans to complete the transfer business with one more signing.
He has been strategic in making minimal changes to the squad, focusing on reinforcing the areas he considers to be the weakest.
“We have made minimal changes to the team. I believe the players already in the squad were good enough to keep. We haveve added three new players: one offensive player, an attacking midfielder, and a goalkeeper. One more signing, an offensive player and we will be done,” he said.
Despite arriving just last month, Odhiambo feels they will be ready by the time the season kicks off on August 24.
“I may not have been here for long but since I arrived, we have had ample time to prepare during the current preseason. Teams are preparing well and you can predict a very competitive campaign next season, so we have to give our best to reach where we want to go,” added Odhiambo.
Odhiambo, who joined from Kakamega Homeboyz FC, has taken over from Bernard Mwalala and will manage KCB FC until July 16, 2025. The bankers parted ways with Mwalala after he chose to take a break to pursue his CAF A coaching license, a requirement set by Football Kenya Federation for all Premier League head coaches.
Odhiambo brings a wealth of experience to KCB FC, holding a CAF A license. His coaching career includes stints at several clubs, such as Prisons FC, Western Stima, Muhoroni Youth, Sony Sugar, Chemilil Sugar, and the Tanzanian Premier League side Biashara United. During his time at Kakamega Homeboyz, he led the team to its first trophy in the 2022/23 season by winning the FKF Cup.
