Trans Nzoia’s revenue officers have sworn an oath of office, pledging to uphold integrity and combat corruption. Governor George Natembeya emphasized the critical role these officers play in ensuring the county collects sufficient revenue.

Natembeya warned that any officer found involved in corruption would face severe consequences. “As revenue officers, you have a major role to play. Adequate revenue collection is essential for our development. I’ve required you to take this oath to underline the seriousness of this commitment,” Natembeya stated.

He highlighted a budget deficit of approximately Sh400 million, which threatens service delivery and project implementation. This shortfall is attributed to decreased funding from the Treasury due to President William Ruto’s withdrawal of the Finance Bill, 2024.

Natembeya urged the workers to avoid corruption and resource wastage, and instructed the finance department to ensure timely payments to suppliers. Chief Officer Emmanuel Masungo acknowledged technical difficulties but assured that funds would be disbursed by next week. He reported that Sh3.5 million had already been paid and that the remaining Sh71 million would be settled next week.

Additionally, Natembeya ordered the transfer of the street cleaning function from the environment department to Kitale municipality.

Chief officers, including Emmanuel Masungo (Finance), Sammy Sichangi (Governance), Dr. Wanjala Majimoto (Livestock), Patrick Osoro (Agriculture), and Philip Kapten (Public Service Management), signed performance contracts. Others who signed include Dorothy Nyukuri (Water and Environment), Dr. Judith Simiyu (Health), Omari Ndiema (Trade), Dianah Wabwile (County Solicitor), and Irene Nang’ole (Municipal Manager).

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Governor Philomena Kapkory and County Secretary Truphosa Amere.
