Comedian and YouTuber Oga Obinna has come out swinging at Kenyans who disrupted Karen Nyamu’s appearance at an endometriosis awareness event, calling their behaviour selfish and short-sighted.
In a black-and-white selfie-style video filmed inside a moving vehicle, Obinna delivered an animated, admonishing monologue — a bold red ‘SHAME’ caption fixed at the bottom of the frame throughout. He did not hold back.
“Selfish Kenyans, selfish Kenyans, shame on you,” he opened, before laying out exactly why he was frustrated.
What happened at the KICC event?
The incident unfolded on Sunday, 27 September 2026, during media personality Natalie Githinji’s “Endometriosis Warriors” awareness event at the KICC Comesa Grounds in Nairobi.
When nominated senator Karen Nyamu stepped up to address the crowd, the audience erupted into synchronised chants of ‘Wantam’ a phrase referencing the one-term debate around the current government — effectively drowning her out.
Despite the hostility, Nyamu held her ground on the podium, firing back with:
“Mimi ndio nawapigania bungeni” (I am the one fighting for you in parliament), and insisted she would not be easily rattled.
The backlash was intense enough, however, that she cut her speech short. Following the event, Nyamu downplayed the crowd’s reaction, claiming over half of the audience had remained silent.
She also accused comedian Eric Omondi, a well-known government critic who was involved in the event, and the MC of directing the chanting from the back.
Obinna accuses crowd of hijacking Natalie’s event
Obinna’s core argument was that in their eagerness to make a political statement, the crowd robbed Natalie Githinji’s event of the attention it deserved.
“You took Natalie’s event and made it about yourself,” he said. “It is a new week. You know what people are talking about? Karen Nyamu being heckled at KICC. You know how many people are talking about the reason why she was at KICC?”
He argued that the organisers had put in real effort to raise awareness about endometriosis, only for the crowd’s political theatrics to overshadow everything.
“These people went out of their way, created awareness about Endo, invited all of these guests and everything, and you guys decided to make it about one person,” he said, pointing out that the senator was not even a central figure in the event’s purpose.
His message was direct: whatever one’s political opinions, channelling them at a health awareness event was misplaced and ultimately counterproductive to the people the event was meant to serve.
