Kenyan comedian and media personality Oga Obinna has weighed in on the growing debate over whether President William Ruto should serve one or two terms, questioning how early the conversation has gained momentum on social media.

In a video shared on Monday, October 5, 2026, Obinna said he has noticed a shift on social media, with more Kenyans openly identifying themselves as either “one-time” or “two-time” supporters.

He appeared surprised by how quickly the debate has gained traction, noting that he had expected such conversations to emerge later in the year.

Obinna identifies different sides of debate

According to Obinna, some people have adopted the “one-time” position because it has become trendy and gives them an opportunity to fit into conversations online.

He also suggested that others are taking the position because they dislike Ruto, while another group may have formed their opinions based on misinformation.

One term vs two term

Obinna said the same applies to people supporting the “two-time” position, with some genuinely backing the President, while others may be motivated by opposition to his critics.

He further observed that some social media users could be supporting either side simply because it is a way of provoking those with opposing views.

Obinna says opposition could boost Ruto

The comedian then turned his attention to the opposition, arguing that its criticism of Ruto could inadvertently help his political ambitions.

Obinna suggested that Ruto may not need to campaign extensively if his opponents continue highlighting issues they believe his administration has failed to address.

“Whatever they say he has not done, all he just has to do is do it,” Obinna said, arguing that visible progress on issues raised by the opposition could change public perception.

He predicted that Kenyans could witness significant changes before the end of the year or by June next year, which he believes could influence how people view the administration.

Obinna, however, left the outcome open, urging Kenyans to watch how the political situation unfolds.

His remarks have added to the increasingly visible conversation around Ruto’s political future, as Kenyans continue debating whether the president should seek a second term or leave office after one.
